Question: transmission oil change

when it should to be replaced

I was told you should do it every year. but it can be costly at around 125 dollars to get it done

The owner's manual of doesn't mention changing the transmission oil in the manual transmission! But most experts (from Mazda techs to independent mechanics) suggest it be changed somewhere between 30k and 45k miles.

It's also worth mentioning that, unlike all of my previous Honda manual transmissions, you can't use regular engine oil (i.e. 5W20) in the transmission. Mazda requires the use of 80W90 gear oil (also called gear lubricant or similar).
